ID LINKS was started by Alan Tice, M.D., from monies received in recognition of his award as 1996 Clinician of the Year by the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
The objective has been to provide a web site for coordination of information and resources available in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology. It also has services for the infectious diseases community that are not available otherwise.
The basic philosophy of ID LINKS is to provide information that is not readily available elsewhere. If others provide similar information or comparable services we would prefer to simply link to them on the net and spend our time and effort in developing new areas for ID LINKS.
Since its inception in May of 1996, there has been a rapid growth in traffic at the site. We now consistently have over 40,000 "hits" per month, with exploration of every aspect and page of our site.
Our visitors include a wide variety of professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, academics and government employees. They also come from countries as diverse as Israel, Argentina, Iceland, Somalia, and India.
CONNECTIONS
At present, ID LINKS provides hot links to a number of other important infectious diseases organizations. The site provides links to the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the World Health Organization (WHO). There are also links to international and national organizations such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the American Society for Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the Association of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), Association for Vascular Access (AVA), and many academic sites.
In addition, there is information about other organizations that may not have their own web site to link to. This includes international infectious diseases organizations. This information facilitates communication among infectious diseases specialists, microbiologists, immunologists, nurses and pharmacists.
UNIQUE FEATURES
There are also unique features about ID LINKS which make it particularly valuable to the infectious diseases specialists. These include:
